The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was founded in 1967 as a modal organization of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Formed from its predecessor, the Federal Aviation Agency, it is responsible for the operational and regulatory aspects of civil aviation and the national airspace system in the United States.
